I agree on Andrew's talent and really admire his talent, however untill a jock has proven himself against international riders "greatest" is a term I will use sparingly. I made the point before about the Cape riding talent being very depleted.

I think we (SA) have ten or more very good jocks who on a specific day can be in the best in the world. We've had jocks "labelled" before and when they go ride against the best in Hong Kong etc they compete but produce no fireworks.

Are only the jockeys running the race. What about the talent of the horse.Good jockeys also make bad horse run better. The so called top jockeys do t ride these horses. And if they do most of them put there hands down...

Andrew's a superb rider...a rare breed of riders who can switch a horse off as easy as Eskom switches off the power.
I'm a great fan but he is nowhere near the "greatest" tag at this stage simply because to claim that title means having to win the big races as well...the July and the Met is still out there.
As a youngster he was so focussed but things probably happened to easily for him...if he keeps the same kind of focus in all areas of his life and chooses his friends carefully then he could well become one of the true greats of the sport.
I'm too much of a Garth Puller fan to say his the greatest jockey in Cape Town at present :-)
What I will say is that it's a moot point.
Andrew's an absolute natural no doubt and so is Strydom but one can't help respecting Mark Khan for is amazing work ethic.
There's lots of other jockey that deserve a mention including our own Lucky so let me just say in closing...whatever the feeling and whoever takes your fancy...
It's great having Andrew Fortune back !!!
