R1 Possibly a slightly more open race than first meets the eye.
On a line through Cloud Runner/Saint Actavius I prefer Simply Charming over Sun Silk Star and Marchioness Janie, especially as Cloud Runner always looked to be travelling with something in hand when beating and SSS and MJ. They drop back in trip here though which could make a difference. Both have a chance but, though she has probably improved since, MJ was 5.75l behind SC in her only c/d run to date. SC seemed to be outpaced early lto but ran on well, if she can be closer to the pace here then she appears to have a good chance.
Not sure why Coral Key's second run here was so much better than her first, given that was her 5th career run and she found a little support on her first run and drifted badly in her second, but as ahe overturned form in the two runs the improvement is clear. She followed up with a respectable effort on the Vaal sand. The winner followed up nto. Stablemate Peedee F seemed to be the stable preference in that first run when only 0.05l separated them but CK has subsequently finished well ahead of PF on the turf. Back here PF could also improve though and is not entirely discounted.
R1 e/w on a complete idiot... Drostdy Girl, drops back in d and gets blinkers. Lady Caroline could improve on the sand but there is no positive breeding indicator, Whatsup could improve if coming on for the return run, she looks held but had a mouth injury reported after that last run, drops in d and blinkers are removed. The Smith debutant is not for me and the rest seemingly have a lot to find.
CORAL KEY x SIMPLY CHARMING x SUN SILK STAR

Anyone at or near the track today know how "heavy" the sand is for today's meeting? Not being a sand expert or knowing how quickly the course drains etc I have no clue, which is why, shouted. if not screamed, in the face of the "powers that be" why reporting the going of every meeting as "standard" is so blardly unhelpful and often wrong. The times of the meeting for August 2nd clearly indicate on that day the course was running very fast which possibly would not favour those horses that like to come from the back. Will it be the same today, who knows?!!
Please please please can someone get this reporting of track conditions as standard for all sand meetings changed. It really can't be that difficult can it?
