Alexander suffered an injury and will be out for six months, the owner blamed the Greyville track

THE STARTER REPORTED :
HOT TICKET (K Neisius), SHOGUNNAR (K de Melo) and CROWN OF GOLD (K Shea) slow into stride.
PADDY O’REILLY (B Fayd’Herbe) lost one length.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED (DA) :
WAVIN’ FLAG (G Hatt), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B Crawford advised. (TN)
WILD ONE (A Delpech), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M de Kock advised. (SA)
CANTERBURY TALE (W Marwing) and SERISSA (S Khumalo) over-raced in the early stages.
SHOGUNNAR (K de Melo) raced wide on the first bend and thereafter broke down and was eased out of the Race at approximately the 1800 metre mark.
RUN FOR IT (S Cormack) and MASTER SABINA (A Marcus) became cramped for galloping room for a number of strides approaching the 2400 metre mark.
RUN FOR IT (S Cormack) was eased and was switched out off the heels of a tiring JEPPE’S REEF (G van Niekerk) at approximately the 500 metre mark. Thereafter Jockey M Yeni, under the impression that something was amiss with ALEXANDER, eased this gelding out of the Race resulting in RUN FOR IT (S Cormack) and JEPPE’S REEF (G van Niekerk) racing to his outside, becoming cramped for galloping room for a number of strides. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine ALEXANDER.
In view of the performances of PADDY O’REILLY (B Fayd’Herbe) (13.40 lengths), JEPPE’S REEF (G van Niekerk) (20.65 lengths) and CROWN OF GOLD (K Shea) (17.65 lengths) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these geldings.
