Durban July Buy In Competition

Right.... Here goes. Firstly BIG thanks to James Blond and Scotia for their generous donations!!!

I mooted the idea that we have an extra R50 buy in for a COMP. P6 with the idea of stimulating interest and of course adding excitement to the afternoons racing. I wanted it to be seen as an oportunity to win big with small outlay but also an advertisement for the selection skills of ABC forummers. Hence the P6 based purely on competition entries.

Remember all, this is a game of skill and you are entering a competition with your eyes wide open. You have to back your ability to choose well and therefore I am proposing that all entrants who show a PROFIT on the days investment will share the P6 dividend should it be caught.

Rules. Same as usual R100 win and place on each selection with the exception of the JULY which will have a R200 win and place.

Get your study glasses on.... Pay your monies and take your chances

Oooooops, forgot to mention....R150 buy in...... R100 to the pure tipping pool, winner takes all...

Quick question Madji, with the pick 6. If we get 40 entries then there is R2000 available for the Pick 6. What if the perm works out to more than R200,000 and the minimum we can take is 1%?

That would be an ouch!!!! Shrek from past competitions there have always been races where only three or four horses have been chosen. I would be very surprised if the perm comes to more than R70k..... I will also be surprised if we get 40 entries. That said, I am in for two entries.

Neigh, as many entries as you like BUT no to topping up P6.

In a nutshell Shrek, we cross that bridge when we come to it.

Thanks for the effort (tu)

Just on the P6 issue - the more entries we have, the more likely the chances are of not being able to afford a 1% ticket - so I would suggest making provision for this up front by stating what would happen to the 'P6 money' in such an event - e.g. will it be added to the 'win/place pool', or ??????????

What about cut-off times; usually we had 30 mins before carded off time of the first race, and most times entries were posted late; so please state the cut-off time on this thread; I think also a good idea to again state on this thread, exactly how the 'points' are calculated, just so that everyone is on the same page.

Lastly just a question - is everybody obliged to enter both 'competitions' (win/place for R100 and P6 for R50) - or can one choose to enter only one or the other ?

Frodo, R150 entry. Rules, including cut off times will be placed on the Competition Selection thread.

As regards the P6 it will be constructed from the entries and as Scotia says....it will be supported by all who take part. There are no hidden agendas here, it will be transparent, posted on the entries thread BEFORE the start of the P6 or earlier if ready and if it loses...tough shit. Anyone who feels that this is an impediment to them entering can stay out.

I am not worried about hidden agendas and / or transparency, but like shrek, I am wondering what would happen should a 1% ticket cost more than the money available; last time when we had the competition on Gold Challenge day, we had 9 'official' entries (I'm excluding Loopy and Tim, as they missed the cut-off time); between the 9 of us a P6 perm would have come to R25,200 - so not inconceivable that more entries could lead to an 'unaffordable' ticket. What happens then, do we take 0.05% of a ticket? Or do we 'borrow' money from the Win/Place pool? Or do we cut the perm (and if so, how)? Or do we 'not take' a P6 and add the P6 funds to the Win/Place funds?

I don't really mind which way we go, but I think it should be clarified up front - no good in 'crossing the bridge when we come to it' :S

Frodo, can we put this to bed.....I posted it would be 'constructed from the entries' ....So if the combinations are in excess of even 1%...... not all will be included... and based on the daily thread disussion as well as betting moves etc. I will make a judgement call.
