Greyville poly limited to 10 and 11 runners

The Polytrack at Greyville is configured to allow for a maximum field of 12 runners but following the 4 trial races last evening it has been agreed with the jockeys to initially limit field size to 10 runners over distances from 1000m to 1600m and 11 runners for distances beyond 1600m.

"The jockeys participating in the trial races were most impressed with the surface," said Gold Circle's Racing and Marketing Executive Graeme Hawkins. "They indicated a preference for "firming up" the track and we expect to race on a clegg-hammer reading of somewhere between 85 and 95," added Hawkins. "But in discussion with the jockeys we agreed that during the initial phase-in period we would limit the field sizes and re-assess the situation after the first couple of race meetings."

Declarations for the first Polytrack race meeting at Greyville on Wednesday afternoon 11 June fall due tomorrow (Thursday 5 June) at 11:00

it would be nice if the trainers that had runners on this course report of any damages caused, if any, and not wait after a month and do so

Ayran the Jocks and every thought the track was great, but there was a few comments made about other things,that im sure will get sorted

all the money spent for max of 10-11 horse field and they talk proud of the poly....rather play fairview poly better investment.


what happens if it rains on July day will the run the first 11 horses and scratch the rest <

I take it that many extra races or racemeetings will be put on to accomadate the huge number of horses that will be eliminated from not only the meetings on the poly but going forward on the turf as well

The 10/11phase is the initial phase and will go up to 12 once everyone is used to the track and any changes that might need to be made.

Think Greyville Poly, think Champ de Mar as everything now seems to start looking like a replica of the Mauritius track.

Even the turf track too......................Ile Maurice style.
