lol WH, how can you be the best "by far" but the runner-up finish "close"? (:P) ;)

I pay little attention to the press and besides, it depends how you register success imo. I would have a small wager that if you were to do it on place betting Loopy would probably leave most of them a long way behind. I am more than happy with what some say here, I am not going to list them all but the likes of Frodo, Shrek and Mr H should never be ignored, if only because they take the few minutes usually to say why they particularly like one and it is easy enough to investigate to see if you agree. If Rob F speaks on the daily thread one would be foolish not to take note of what someone with his knowledge and betting experience says. Others too...

I don't normally follow any of the 'full-time' tipsters - some of them better than others, and it has to be remembered that the ones in the printed media get limited time to study and do their selections - and also they mostly do not get the opportunity to be aware of the prevailing conditions on the day.

But have to say that I never follow anyone with pre-conceived ideas like '2 yr old in open company - so can't win' or '2nd run after a rest - can't win' or ' 1 time winner against a 7 time winner - can't win' :D

On the site there are plenty I have a lot of respect for - in no particular order (and apologies if I 'forget' anyone) - Tim, Rob F, Shrek, Englander, Mr H, Bayern (tu)

And I particularly like Elvis - always try to link horse names with specific events - and amazingly, it works more often than not (tu) - tell the story about the beads (tu)

Just teasing Englander....good answer.i agree with your comments. In racing you must be open minded and gather as much info as possible in order to make your final selection. there are some very well informed and shrewd members on this site, you included. An insignificant comment can make a big difference in winning or losing. I remember once i was listening to mathew lipps preview of the scottsville card. In the 1st leg of the pix six there was a 4/10 which he said you could banker but he mentioned one more horse which was returning from cape town. i included this in my pick six. i won 25k on the pick six, his comment made me include the 3rd fav. which made a big difference. by the way i bankered lisa harris in the last leg. Kevin Shea rode with a sliiped safdle and just got up. I think it was Lisa Harris first win as a trainer in SA.
