Official - Who is leaving SA
11 years 2 weeks ago
I am aware that there has been numerous threads regarding which horse will be going into quarantine.
Just thought i open this thread so we have one dedicated thread.
I feel that the general public should be aware or advised of "doubtful starters"as people start taking multiples and this leaves a bitter taste and shows transparency in an industry that requires growth
how do we attract and keep a new punter, only for him to loose his money before the start of the race day?
the media is great in singing about the new champion, only for the new punter to realise that the champion has left our shores.
Please feel free to post on doubtful or confirmed horses that will or are leaving SA..
Thank You

Yorker back in July picture
(3 June 2014)
David Thiselton
Geoff Woodruff said that it looked at this stage that his big horse Yorker may be staying in the country for the season and running in the Vodacom Durban July. He reported the strapping, ever improving four-year-old Jet Master gelding to be “doing nicely” before his run in Saturday’s Gr 1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge over 1600m at Clairwood.
However, he added, “If Capetown Noir bring his “A” game on Saturday, he will be very hard to beat. We got a bit lucky to beat him in the Horse Chestnut. Beach Beauty is also a nice runner. I think Yorker might be leaning towards being better over 2000m now. He is also coming off the back of a hard campaign and I would like him peaking for the July.”
It has now been confirmed that members of a shipment of horses that will travel from South Africa to Dubai via Mauritius have to be in quarantine by June 8, which would rule them out of the July. Yorker’s inclusion on that shipment has been up in the air for a long time, but listening to Woodruff it would appear that the connections are now favouring him staying here, at least for the time being.

'peaking for the July', 'would appear' and 'favoring him staying here' - why can't anybody come out and say what the intentions are - by now 'they' should have made the decision if he is going into quarantine after Saturday? Od does it depend on how he runs on Saturday? Sure there is nothing to gain by keeping the public in the dark :S

This reminds me of the Horse Chestnut / Fort Defiance saga abt 15 yrs ago. Horse Chestnut even bid farewell to all his supporters at Gosforth Park but continued to accepot subsequent nominations for the July. It was MDK's strategy to secure a relatively low weight for Fort Defiance but backfired in court.
