I watched a super show this morning about the English Derby put together by Bonski and thought they must show it on Tellytrack surely Kantor will bend someone's ear or a kick in the balls would be more appropriate ?

Bad news - so instead of making the 'international service' subscription based, they are now looking at making the 'local service' subscription based, so either us poor local viewers are going to be subjected to the chariots, and the usual 'mediocre' international fair from Southwell, etc, or we are going to have to fork out to watch local racing only - why can they not do it right and offer their customers a 'bouquet'- e.g. I would like to see local racing (and I do no classify Ngong, Mauritius and Borrowdale as 'local') with selected international meets like the British features, the American Triple Crown and Breeders Cup, etc.
So it's probably going to be 'back to normal' for many of us, as I can't see why anyone would subscribe to a service showing 'local racing' only - might as well endure all the rubbish (mute button is still working ok) for 'free' in order to be able to see the international 'flagship' meetings :

1. Surely as a owner you would be concerned if turnover was dropping as this would lead to minimal or no stakes increases??
2. 50% of UK races are run after SA racing has finished so don't see why they ever got rid of it.
3. Why have a subscription rate at all, i don't understand the reason...:S

You guys remember when IGN was first flighted on DSTV, we had to pay a monthly subscription over and above the bouquet fee, R 50.00 a month I think it was?
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

But then we did not pay R700+ for DSTV

So who, as Flash would say was the "clever" that came up with this plainly stupid plan which could have been halted before it started with proper market research? How on earth does Stuart retain his job when this happened under his control? How do you explain away the immediate loss of turnover and what's far worse - the long term loss - And all the lies we were fed about DSTV etc and now it's plain to see they did not EVER have a valid broadcast license!! How can such people be allowed to steer an industry? If I am wrong then why the reversal? And they should apologise to all punters out there for not ONCE asking what WE wanted!! And this brilliant statement that the current format has proved popular " with racegoers, owners and racing professionals." ? If it was so POPULAR then why revert back? And who are the people that keep TT running?PUNTERS!! Respect your clients ! Is that such a difficult concept to wrap your head around! No really these people should be ashamed at the way they treat us !!

Of course a drop in turnover is a concern, but to just return to what we had is not the answer imo - I do not begrudge anyonewho would like to see an 'international' race - what I absolutely hate is that TT feel they have to show the selections from Big Ben etc. for these meetings (and then have Cecil reading these ad nauseum :X) - that just eats into the time that they could have shown an interview / canter by from the local track during a local meeting.
For me it is just logical that local is more important to most viewers and should be free, with the 'international' stuff subscription based offering a bouquet of what you want to see - then nobody would be forced to watch the chariots and Ngong, etc.

International racing, soccer, etc are much more profitable (higher margins) for the operator as they do not have costs associated with "putting on the show" as they do with local racing...
This is why the operators net margin is increasing even if turnover from local racing decreases...this would also explain the increasing share price and why the executives keep their jobs...they are making their shareholders money by increased net margins (which lead to higher dividends) as well as through the share price increase...
So, what they are doing makes sense from a business point of view but does nothing to benefit the punter...the aim is to increase turnover from high margin operations and decrease activity in low margin operations (local racing)...and since local racing turnover is what funds stakes, I would expect owners to be voicing their concerns but since the major owners have been co-opted into the operators and benefit from the current business decisions, there is silence...
I did a quick Sharenet search and the last 18 months have seen increased notification of directors dealings in Phumlela shares...don't know what the details of the transactions are...18 such notifications in last 18 months with ONLY 1 in period Jan 2011 to Oct 2012...:S
