SA representative teams hobbled by politics
11 years 2 months ago
Mbalulu has announced that with immediate effect teams representing SA must have at least 60% black representivity as the pace of transformation is too slow. Sports affected are rugby, cricket, athletics, football and Netball.
I would personally suggest that this has not worked for Bafana Bafana and that they drop the need to have blind and disabled in the team.
Politics will kill sport. The politicians should be focused on the future and nurturing talent with proper facilities rather than interfering with current teams for idealogical reasons.
Just my opinion.

The Nazis experimented with an extreme form of social engineering, the apartheid government attempted their warped sense of social engineering and now the ANC government is doing the same...it is impossible for the best in our society to rise and make a meaningful contribution to this country when the numbers game is played...my grandfather is from India but I have no identification with India as I am a South African...and it saddens me to see many people of all hues being denied the opportunities to improve this country simply because the numbers dictate that they should be excluded...
See quotas in sports teams, see quotas for university entrance, see quotas for professional membership, see quotas for employment...all based on demographics and transformation...I worry for my daughter as in 15-20 years time she will finish university and, based on the feedback we have received from her teachers, she will do exceptionally well...but what opportunities will be available to her to make a significant contribution to this country if the numbers dictated limit her...I have a brother who is an engineer who is now in Canada because he has a 2 year old daughter whose future he worries about...Canada is not and will never be home for him but his skills are benefiting that country...he is trying to sell the place to me and if the wife and I assess that things are not improving, then we will leave and SA loses another two professional people that make a contribution to this country...
That's my half-rant for today...sighs....

The England cricket team only used to select players who went to private schools. Now they have a policy that there must be at least 4 foreign born players in their team.

No great loss to FIFA unless they want us to host another World Cup to milk us...rate and taxpayers left with burden of funding white elephant infrastructure whilst FIFA made off with profits...with some returned to the small group whose egos thought that the World Cup was good for South Africa...

4 ?? Too few...I think the dictates were at least 6 as they haven't been below that in a long time...

When I think of quotas I always imagine a scenario when you are drowning and you are looking for a life guard to save you...will you only want a person from previously disadvantaged background to save you or will you be grateful that a life guard with good swimming skills will help you. So does it matter..we need the best people for the job irrespective....

I would think that if the soccer side hade to have 40% white players they might win the odd match.......................lol
Jokes aside, why is this race issue so one sided ..............couldn't be bothered anymore quite frankly......too stressfull.

There are talented, intelligent, industrious people even from previously disadvantaged backgrounds but not all of them are given the opportunities or are allowed to rise to positions where they can make a difference...do not carry membership card of the right political party, are unwilling to pay for the opportunity, etc, etc...
Surely within the supporters of the ANC there are +-1 million talented, intelligent and industrious people who can fix this country ?? Rather than where we find ourselves...leaving our current failures to burden future generations...
