I am not as articulate as Garrick.........
My take is " if someone drops a puppy in the water and pulls it out just before it's last gasp, are they villain or hero-interesting how different people see it.
Anyway delighted that the panic is over and maybe lessons have in fact being learnt -wouldn't it be wonderful if this turns a corner and we start getting more good news than bad.
Next on the agenda should be sorting out inexplicable tote dividends and tote manipulation!

I would expect that punting on races you cannot see will die out. I certainly would not bet on them.

We have got a Hotel here in PE with a large Betting Room containing a Tab Tote and Independent Bookie.
Presumably as the Racing TV Service is supplied to the Tote and the bookies counter starts 1 foot away the status quo stays!

It would depend on who is paying the rent.....if it is a TAB venue then the bookie is obliged to fork over his 3% because he has access to the picture....should he not pay, then the Operator has the right to evict him.....Should the bookie hold the lease or rental and refuse to pay the 3%.....the operator will pull the plug on the TAB terminal....and there will be no picture......::o

One thing that the operator has not taken into account is that they may force certain bookies underground.....the dreaded bucket shops.....nothing to stop an ex-bookie from setting up in his palatial home or "sports bar" and trade with his closest customers.....we had one spring up in a well known food take out joint in our neighbourhood.....it was being frequented by certain people very close to Phumelela management....someone at the Operator obviously tipped them off as it ceased operating when it got out that they had been drawing too much attention.....::o

Here in KZN a lot of these bookies have Tote terminals operating as well. How does the new dispensation affect them.:S

DSTV and MULTICHOICE should be congratulated in solving this crisis for PHUMELELA and TELLYTRACK.
