TELLYTRACK: Press Release
Date: 27 February 2014
Subject: TELLYTRACK to move to an alternative service provider

Multichoice is entitled to terminate the broadcast of Tellytrack if it believes that the channel is not performing to its satisfaction. Viewers are informed that Multichoice has elected to do so and that, in accordance with the notice received yesterday, the broadcast of Tellytrack on the Multichoice platform will terminate with effect from midnight on 26 March 2014.

Multichoice has indicated that it would be willing to consider entering into a short-term agreement in order to allow Tellytrack to make arrangements for the channel to be delivered on an alternative platform.

Tellytrack wishes to minimise the inconvenience of its viewers and will use all reasonable endeavours to do so.

Tellytrack is considering its options, including the possibility of pursuing a short-term agreement to ensure a smooth transition of the content to another service provider.

Further announcements will be made as soon as is reasonably possible.

The Phumelela directors could have avoided this if they had not tried to destroy the bookmaking industrty.They now need to cover at least 50000 subscribers who would take the picture.( to keep their market share).Without the picture in their homes and offices people are not going to gamble as much as they do at present.The hardened gamblers will migrate to sports betting and might not go back to racing and most of them will bet with bookmakers by taking doubles etc as the large sports pools are to hard to win so the bookmakers will still score.Interesting times ahead.Phumelela shares should now correct to a more realistic value.

The sabc will never broadcast a gambling channel, there will be massive
public objection

I doubt if the SABC would be able to take over the broadcast - Imagine the complaints to the BCCSA if a gambling channel (R18) could broadcast in a time when kids could view without parental supervision? The answer can only be another satellite provider - TopTV or a personal decoder or digital via the net. SABC does not want it or one of their local radio stations would have taken up the commentary ages ago.

My opinion is that a large portion of the multichoice viewership only has DSTV because of the sport. Because TT just happened to be on DSTV package was a bonus. If TT is removed from DSTV and goes to TopTV.........will i now go and buy myself a TopTV decoder and pay another subscription.....the answer is No! If TopTV had all the sport channels available to me what DTSV has, then a big YES!

Will i now lose interest in horseracing.......probably YES.

Will i concentrate more on sport betting......definitely YES.

Will i stop my DSTV.....definitely NO, cos i love my sport!

Looks like it's going to boil down to extra costs for me personally - can't really move bouquets either, as I don't think there is one that accommodates us as a family - the kids want Disney, my wife wants the cooking channel and Kyknet - I want SS1 and SS2 at least - so will probably have to fork out some extra bucks each month (after the possible initial cost of getting another decoder) for TT on another 'service provider' - but will they then still show the chariots :S So maybe live streaming is the future :S:S
