i for one would not be complaining as its the tote thats loosing out not the punter...yesterday i backed the Edges horse that won and it paid R16 after it was showing R7-30 before the off... i have no qualms cause I was a winner and on the bookies site it was 6/1 or 7/1....My point if the Tote press release is that some Aussie punter is taking big bets..whether hogwash or true...the punter locally is benefitting...Tote has to pay declared dividend..

and when you back a genuine 5-1 and it pays R1-20 a win? And when the tote fav turns out to be a 10-1 shot at the bookies and the scratchings go onto that horse at the tote and it runs unplaced? Is that why we study form so that our bets can be reduced to Roulette because our product is not being protected by the operator?

What IF
The operator is behind this? What if this is a surefire way to attack the OPEN bet?
I must say that gives the operator plenty credit but i could be!

agra no cash blown
simple they load up R30 k a win on 2 horses (as solotrama says)
and via accounts with bookies they back the 2 horses and collect BIG...
could be very close to the truth, if you logged onto a bookies site and stuck R10000 on the open bet win on a 9/10 shot the bookie would not even flinch
BUT
after race dividend says R7 and bookie pays
I really really HOPE this is whats happening......teach bookies a lesson

maybe a foreign punter that has a partner in SA that is taking open bets here at inflated prices knowing that they'll shorten one they don't like and boost the other

I also have thought the same. Incase they are taking the unclaimed winning tickets money and pumping back or even the carry over P6 funds as no one knows what is left in the kitty.
