I remember parking many blocks away when there was a big race at Turffs and as a young student worrying that my car would be gone when races finished but as everything in life things change. When I went to the Met a few years back it was packed but it did not have the same Racing atmosphere that Turffs or Gosforth had in the 80's and early 90's - Was more of a social event and my opinion is that if that's all we can get then that's what we have to accept and make that the standard around big days. As to normal days.... well I really don't know.

If sport betting is taking off by leaps and bounds-- how is it that most bookies are actually making it more complicated in getting these sport bets on.. Eg- 20bucks punter has to complete a card scratched to the fixture list of the teams he wants---- where laying that bet could have taken him 5 mins now takes him a further 25 mins. Then to lay horse racing @ a betting world outlet u got to call the race no. And the horse number for that race--- and there is no race card-- i the punter must find all this info plus put my cash down.. :X.

1985? Guy Fawkes. Gosforth Park. (Backed the winner in the Lancome Fillies Championship - Eviva Espana). Arrived at the course late and had to park on the street. When we returned to the car after the racing my Datsun 1200 was stolen!

Racing was stopped in Transvaal during a horse sickness outbreak in the 80's. Durban racing was shown on tv at Gosforth Park for a few months.
Thousands of punters would be there every Saturday.
