Just had a look at the race - IF Sugar Ray ran to his rating (66) - then DtbG should be around 47 - so IF she had indeed incurred a 15 point penalty, it seems harsh - but in that case both the 3rd and 4th horses ran way below there ratings - so the feeling could be that both SR and DtbG have improved - and IF they gave SR the max 8 points increase, that would make DtbG 55 - what rating did Sugar Ray get ?

The horse is on it's way to it's 40th race. It's had at least 4 trainers. So we talking about a mare who in the past would not be running, so critics of the system need to consider they plotting how to get a horse to win in this system, while the previous system who have retired this horse, it would be running at level weights in a novice and wouldn't even get to run with handicappers.
At one point she was a 76, now a 42. As a racing fan, I'm not sure I even want to see poor 6 yo mares running at 42 hp, they pretty much putting along, not so?
On the 20th she ran 2nd in a Hcp receiving 9Kgs from the winner and 4 kgs from the horse behind her.
On the 27th she ran 2nd in a Hcp receiving 9.5Kgs from the winner and 7.5Kgs from the horse behind her.
So both times she received weight from the whole field, and both times she nearly won. It's fine to keep comparing her rating to the 2 single horses who beat her, what about the dozen horses giving her weight and getting beat?
It's ironic, and par for the course, for nearly all our trainer to measure their horse by the horse in front, and never the horse behind....unless it's them!

then the nhra website must be incorrect because it clearly says 45 mr on sand and gives the correct number of runs for it and it clearly ran off a 42 on monday 27th

Getting 15 points for running 2nd does seem excessive. What would she have gotten had she won?
I think perhaps there is a mistake somewhere?
Would love to know her official MR.......

its also easy for people to criticise that ziets should have waited for a race but he doesnt write the race program plus because of her very low rating she can be the first eliminated for the race if it is over subscribed...by increasing her rating she will qualify a lot easier for other races...

Yeah I agree. She was run out of necessity and not because of being a handicap snip. There are no MR 45's around to run in. The lowest is a MR 56 or 58 I think and even then if, as Pirates says, it is too full she will not get in. Stuck between a rock and a hard case if you ask me
All the best Ziets, you have a long road ahead of you but at least you are doing what you love bud!!!

The 15 points is 100% correct the line horse was the third horse-She was unfortunate that because of her MR in the past we had to run her in the wrong races from bad draws and all the normal excuses -I am honest I actually gave up on her but think she will still be competitive from her new MR .The ratings on NHRA site get only updated once a month or week I think. The rules are clear and as Shaheen say not for the feint hearted
.I had a filly in PE that ran 3rd in a feature race and she got 15 points I got small black type but effectively forced me to retire her to stud(Hail the Hearty)
Remember her grass rating is still 41 so watch for a strike;-)))))
