Never met him but I would guess that might be an understatement.... .lol

As Greg says ,there are many "shrewd" moves locally ..........more generally fail than succeed because most shrewdies aren't also smart.................and you won't believe how many conspiracies fail, due to the doublecross!

Gotta love it!! If anyone has a copy of "The Coup" by Ken Payne, you can see how the schemers minds work.

Anyone remember the late Michael Roberts pulling of 2 big coups with Day to Remember backed from 33/1 and Phantom Earl backed at similar odds. In both cases, races run up the straight at Turffontein, both races had another Roberts runner (Snow Cat & Grey Tiger) that were odds on. Those were coups.

When the bookies get hit... guys really, wake up, who do you think pays the bookies for them to get hit? What about all the punters who had other yankees that needed one in the 4 races that formed part of this coup to make it a full house etc? What about all the punters who were oblivious to what was going on and did their hard earned cash in good faith on other horses. Yes, it has a kind of, for want of a better term, idyllic romanticism about it. So did The Great Train Robbery etc. Doesn't make them right and all you are doing with your love of the adventurous etc side of such coups is encourage more people to do it right under your noses when what SA Racing so desperately needs imo is huge improvements in transparency. If you are going to say you love it, don't moan about a lack of transparency in the game. And one last point, I have no idea in truth but, I don't think he needs the money so why is he doing it? Are we simply paying our money to boost one man's ego and be happy about it? For me... bad, bad, bad!!! yup, bad! :?

Englander ,you are absolutely correct...................nobody pushes for better regulation than me..................if there is an upside to these scenarios its the evidence that those who think the game regulates itself ,and is naturally honest, are naïve!

Bah Humbug..
Good luck to Curley, the trainers, the stable staff in the yards, sure the stable cat will get some as well.
Those punters who were oblivious and backed something else, tough.
And if it did cost some punters money, why worry as the bookies would have it back soon enough anyway.
