The last coup of some sorts at Clairwood over 10 years ago on a horse trained by Bertie Hayden called Sweet on Him. Was backed down on the course before the race from 20's into 18/10 and won over the 1000mts.

Trainer was asked to appear at the Enquiry and questioned regarding the horses previous run & jockey late Peter Dillon [r.i.p] was also questioned on his ride when the trainer was alleged to have instructed jockey Dillon to give the horse an "easy ".

Bertie Hayden was slapped with a fine of R5O,OOO-- but after appealing at the High Court, it was set aside. The owner of the horse Mr.A. Jacobson,[ father of jockey B. Jacobson ?] was interviewed by Molly a few months later when the horse won at Gosforth Park over 1000mts and he said that he did not know who got the cash, rumored to be about R 2OO,OOO--- that was won on the coup at Clairwood.

The late Buddy Nassif was also top class in giving the bookies a tickle...when training and having horses with Mrs Heming...

Dave Frederickson, Springbok hooker, ask me once, to bet for him at the JHB Tattersall's, as the bookies refused to take his bets. I don't know if he was a big hitter. His bets that day all lost.

Do you remember the bookmaker at Jhbg Tatts?....... Andrew Papageorge ( I know Flash will remember..B)..) He was also in the Jean Hemming horses betting coups ( not saying Jean was involved at all).....One day the rumour goes out that he has been badly beaten up, for not " playing the game " with the right boys!....We go to tatts and there sits Andrew...in plaster, head bandaged and looking well and truly beaten up. Lo and behold the next day all bandages off and he is sprinting around the tats , back to his old cheeky self....:P

Apparently all the "business" was sorted out amicably, so no longer necessary to be on the injury list............:D

some good stories...:P...pity I wasn't in on it....but they also lost big...;)

As an outsider...and a lightie...one of my things was to pick up on a coup...and tag along...not at the 20/1 ...but 8/1 was good enough for me...(tu)
