LQP - Queen's Plate game and history
11 years 5 months ago
Dear Clanners,
now with the Guineas done and dusted, the Cape is on its way to the Queen's Plate, 11th January.
L'Ormarins is running the LQP Facebook game at the moment - with a daily winner of a Style Lounge Ticket. Fabulous opportunity to get all your friends playing and get them to learn a bit about WFA and racing at the same time!

Take a canter down memory lane - and win real prizes - with our match race game.
Until 30 November, there is a weekly prize of a Style Lounge ticket for the 2014 L'Ormarins Queen's Plate up for grabs. From 1 December, until 9 January, there is a ticket every day, so get playing (you may only win once)!
The game introduces you to past Queen's Plate champions. Like horse racing in the early days, the format of the race is a match race (i.e. between two horses).
The outcome of the simulated race is based upon the two horses' merit ratings. These are, effectively, a handicap, and are expressed in pounds. Better horses have higher ratings. For example, if there is a 2 lb difference in ratings, the horse with the higher rating is expected to win by one length (over 1600m, the distance of the Queen's Plate, one length equates to 2 lbs in additional weight carried). This is Newton's Second Law in action!
During the game, you have the opportunity of using points to buy a weight allowance. So, even if your horse is not rated that highly, you can make it competitive by reducing the weight it carries. This is no different to the real life horse racing.
You can also earn points by designing racing colours, inviting your friends to play, and by answering a simple question.

Birch Bros bred horses won 9 times from 1948. They really bred well, wonder if Vogel Vlei still has the recipe???
