Hassen Adams casino group (the enemy) bails out the Guineas
11 years 6 months ago
In an exciting development, it has just been announced that stalwart patron of Western Cape racing, Hassen Adams, will be sponsoring the prestigious Cape Guineas (Grade1).
The Cape Guineas has an exceptional roll of honour featuring many South African turf luminaries, and this historic Classic will again be a highlight during the Summer of Champions season. The current vintage of upper echelon three year olds will line up 21st December at Kenilworth for the 2013 showdown.
Hassen Adams is a prominent business man, dedicated owner/breeder and staunch racing supporter who has occupied various key roles directing Western Cape racing over the years. He said, 'I am proud to be associated with the greatest three year old race in South Africa, the Cape Guineas, presented by Grand Parade Investments.”
The Summer course at Kenilworth, with wide sweeping turns and a long stretch run is the perfect layout for fair, high class competition. The Guineas remains one of the most significant on the racing calendar – cognoscenti accord enduring respect to winners of this great race. Colorado King, Hawaii, Horse Chestnut and Jay Peg went on after their victories to become International legends, whilst champion sires Jet Master and Captain Al established their racing reputations when winning here.
Adams added. “We aim to make it a special family day at Kenilworth Racecourse.'' Burger King South Africa being one of GPI’s Subsidaries intends to reach out to disadvantaged kids and our senior citizens
by making it a special day for them. In keeping with this drive, there will be a strong emphasis on charity and acting in the best interest of the community. Coming just a few days before Christmas, the focus will be on making it memorable for attending families, with loads of generously donated gifts. Given the beautiful setting and rejuvenated facilities, it is a day not to be missed by families eager to share in the Festive spirit together.

sponsors are increasingly hard to come by. Not long now and legislation will prohibit spirits and alcohol companies from sponsoring sports events, J&B will be out and Grandwest will be in. Racing will see the day where a major feature race will be sponsored by their own competition.

yes it is - I have often thought that the way to get new customers is through "stealing" gamblers from casinos

the greatest three year old race in south africa? really? what the lot of non sense it may be one of the greatest three year old race in cape town but how he can say in south africa is typical of the cape town attitude and even arrogance. i am surprise we dont have the kzn boys shouting and for me i support them. the classic 3yo race in kzn are the only race where you have the countrywide particepation. i now the western cape think the country borders are stellenbosch, hermanus and port nollath but please what the joke statement.

Even an American like me knows that the Guineas in Cape Town for both fillies and males is the race everybody wants to win the most. The Woolavington for fillies has considerable prestige, but there is no comparable event for colts that can match the Cape Guineas.

FH. The KZN Guineas is only a grade 2 and the Daily News is their grade 1. Hardly compares in history and stature to the Cape Guineas bud. I do however agree with your last statement. Hehe
