Jockey International challenge

Honestly feel the overseas jocks should have won.
SA disgraced themself even though winning.
Cudnt win races on the favourites!
Richard hughes showed them who's boss.
Even though they won I bet SA jocks are still thinking WTF! How he takes over the races 100m out.
Overseas jocks were given not the best horses in the race yet proved themselves.
Glad sa won but this is just my opinion.

The South African team wins the ACTS International Jockeys Challenge

ACTS International Jockeys Challenge 17 November at Clairwood

18th November 2013

17th November 2013 -The South African team scraped out an exciting win over The Rest of the World side in a tightly contested ACTS International Jockeys challenge. Contributions from each member ensured a 25 point victory over the visitors.

Going into the third and final leg of this challenge, the South African team comprising Pierre Strydom, Anton Marcus, Robbie Fradd, Sean Cormack, S’Manga Khumalo and Anthony Delpech held a 69 point advantage. The Rest of the World (Richard Hughes, Jamie Spencer, Johnny Murtagh, Tom Queally and Hugh Bowman, Gregory Benoist) had gone 15 points up after the first leg at Turffontein, but wins by Delpech and Fradd wrested back a controlling lead for the hosts at a sodden, curtailed Kenilworth meeting.

The Internationals drew closer when they cleaned up in the early legs at Clairwood on Sunday, including sweeping the first four positions in Race 6.

At that stage, the contest was delicately poised with only 11 points separating the teams after each of the first eight races in the challenge had been won by a different hoop. The Kotzen yard then notched a double when That’s Our Girl won the seventh race. She hit the front at the 300m under Robbie Fradd and kept on ahead of Circle of Speed (Benoist) to maintain a 21 point South African lead going into the last.

In the finale Richard Hughes came scything through on Commodity Strike to snare Last Eclipse (Khumalo) and Nineteen Fourteen (Marcus). His brilliant jockeyship was evident throughout the challenge and he deservedly lifted individual honours. But points secured for placings in the last enabled the South African team to maintain their narrow edge, eking out a 523 – 498 victory to wrest back the International Jockeys Challenge for 2013.

Point system needs to be revised. Why on earth are points being awarded for running 6th - 10th ?

Yip Mr Hughes is a champion for a reason.....our guys rode well enough and makes the challenge more exciting next year.....we should have the reciprocate challenge overseas to see how we would do in their backyard....

Agreed. Horseracing is about winning not running kak places. More points should be added for a win. The win points should account for at least half of the total points - just like the stakes distribution.

Maybe the way to go is the team that won the most in total stakes money should be the winners. Why award the same amount of points for winning a maiden plate as a G2 race? Why get rewarded for finishing sixth or worse? Which team did win the most in total stakes money, it would be interesting to know?

Don't think it was a draw for rides. Think Larry and Vee graded the runners in their opinion and then dished out the rides, I believe that was their idea of spreading the chances

these is a good theory but again why should these happen. do the public draw and let the cards fall like they do every where else in world
