Merit Rating System
11 years 8 months ago
I have been talking to a fairly large number of trainers {mainly in Cape Town] and the general concensis of most is that
they believe the MR system has ruined racin in South Africa
What suprised me was that they are the customers and thay have this system shoved down their throats and can do nothing
about it
The feeling is that young horses are penalised and many carreers are ruined before thay start
Any thoughts

Does that only apply to runners who had the increase in the first place or will they do it for the PE runners too. As this will put the PE runners at a dissadvantage again. Plus horses that have now run on the Sand for the first time after their increase will they drop 6 points on this surface. Seems like a total stuff up. Who was the genius that decided to do this in the first place? :S

They never got the increase so will they get the 6 point drop? That is the whole reason the increase was done.

Surely it would only apply to the horses that got the 6 point increase in the first place??

The MR saga / the fixed odds dissemination saga / new fees for betting outlets.... an industry at war with itself?

I would guess it would just be back to 'as you were' before the increase - those not having 'suffered' increases will also not 'benefit' from a decrease - or that's what should happen - but you never know with these okes :
- as if form study is not tough enough

And if the horse hadn't run on the Sand before and was a 77 on 8th August and now an 83, ran a 5th in a handicap on the sand off an 83. Would the horse now go to a 77 on the Sand or stay an 83 as Sand ratings were never adjusted.
