Bleeding horses to make anti-venom??

A horse expert who asked not to be named said horse blood was sometimes used to produce anti-venom for snake bites. In this process, venom is introduced into the horse, the horse creates antibodies against the venom, and this blood is used for anti-venom

Rian Janse van Rensburg, an investigator at the National Horse Racing Authority, said it could not investigate the matter because the owners were not registered with the authority. "We don't have any jurisdiction over them," he said.

The National SPCA said 33 horses, owned by the two men, were found starving on the Free State farm on September 19.

The case is expected to be registered on Monday.

The owners' names have not been released as they have not been charged yet.

The former racehorses were the offspring of well-known steeds such as Al-Mufti, Western Winter, Tiger Ridge, London News and Model Man.

They were so emaciated that nine were put down immediately and another nine the next day.
