Article on racingweb, including a letter from him.

Apparently he had no supporters at the Nationals; and he is pursuing more lucrative business plans. He also feels the larger stables are making it more and more difficult for the smaller yards.

Whilst I am sure that the racing model will have to change, and the present "secret stakes system" is not cutting it,I fear,if you read the racing web article, that more and more people believe the solution lies with subsidy.Surely the suggestion that some form of system, whereby large stables prop up the small, cannot be taken seriously?
Perhaps a compromise would be,small stables becoming satellite yards to the large stables,on some form of franchise basis
In my opinion, apart from 1 grade1 win,the results that the Cunha stable produced, with the stock it had,was below par....even when horses appeared to find the "right race" horses seldom reproduced the desired form. Not really an ideal recipe for re-investment!
Is it possible that some small stables could become bigger and more successful with an improved and more professional work ethic, and maybe having to maintain the standards, set by the larger stables as franchisors(sic),would achieve that!

There are approximately 180 stables across the country. That's hardly the sign of a monopoly of the few.Surely the best trainers deserve to have the biggest stables,it's the concept of the best being rewarded,a system most of us subscribe to as capitalists. It's survival of the fittest. Why would you want anything else?
