Charges have been or are about to be dropped.

I am outraged as a normal citizen.

they may institute a lesser charge.

we wait and see.

Sly they are not dropping the charges they are changing it from murder to manslaughter he can still go to jail for long time.
I am not a law man but no a bit, maybe enough to be dangerous :), but they might have a better chance of convicting him on man slaughter than murder.
to find a person guilty of murder you have to prove a lot of things, like for instance was it planned, premeditated, could the person forsee the death of a person etc.
a few years ago their was the case of the taxi driver that ran over a girl on her scooter he was found guilty of murder, because he ran her over on purpose and could have foresee that his actions could kill her
also in the case of the taxi driver who skipped the rail road crossing his sentence was also changed from murder to manslaughter by the appeals court.
yes the law is interesting
i am looking forward to see the trail of the century

I live in the area where the accident took place and travel on Fields Hill often...I am also privy to the work done by the Sanele May Support Group. They have been campaigning hard and quite rightly for the charges to be reduced, not dropped. Today is a deserved victory.
Sanele May has been solely blamed for this accident yet the owner of the trucking company has yet to approached by the authorities...

Also, our so called MEC for whatever, a Mr Mchunu, rushed to the scene in the customary blue light convoy to express his shock and other b s in front of the press then all of a sudden Sanele May is charged with murder...strange....Even stranger still is that at around the same time, a bus driver was transporting Zulu maidens back from a festival in northern KZN. The bus crashed resulting in the death of eight young women. In this case however, the driver ( to the best of my knowledge ) was never charged or anything. Where was the MEC then ?

Furthermore, months on from the Fields Hill accident, nothing but nothing has been done re the safety measures demanded by the community. All we have had is the usual dollop of hot air and drivel from the MEC about what measures 'will' be taken.

It appears very much like the whole 'murder charge' issue was a political decision and now that the inaction on the hill is noticeable the charges have suddenly been reduced.

Should Sanele May pay for what he did ? Yes....but should he be charged with murder...No...

Faking documents.. Illegally in the country... Then robbing families of their bread winners is ok??? Sorry!!! The owner never drive the truck likewise in horseracing the trainer never rides therefore we lambast jockeys for poor judgement....lives were lost and he was responsible for it... Period!!! he must face the consequences.

Yes HORRENDOUS I just cannot imagine what the families & loved ones of the deceased have/are going thru.

Just half a block up the road from me there is this guy who owns a Bus company and one of his Buses was involved in an accident a short while ago were I think 4 or 5 lives were lost and many serious injuries. The maitenance and repairs to his Buses are are done on the street and they look like scrap or krap. I have reported this to the Authorities, both Local & Provincial as have a few other residents with absolutely NOTHING being done. Now months later we are told that ALL complaints must be in the form of individuak Letters and signed before any investigation whatsoever can be done. I visited and convassed quite a few residents and actuallt deafted and printed the letters so only a signature required and sent them by registered post.

So while the AUTHORITIES drag their feet the CARNAGE on our roads continue. There is absolutely no PROACTIVE road management in South Africa and IMO therein lies the start of the problem and like a Cancer is just allowed to grow. I really feel for the people that are forced by circumstances to use the private transport companies.

Yes, but if the there is a problem with the horse (steroids etc), the trainer is accountable. If there is a problem with the truck, the owner is responsible.

In the absence of consequence, everyone thinks they are king / queen...in this case, I am referring to the owners...

If the vehicle is proven to be unroadworthy then the owner must be prosecuted... I agree.. This was driver negligence or incompetence.... Makes me sad people canvassing for him...
