HH,from last week:
"Never mind the criticism,at least you had the balls to put to your opinion out there.Having said that, that you can believe that any of the SA teams can come even close to holding their own against The NZ teams, especially this year,is beyond me.The change in rules patently suites the pace of their game much better than ours(SA teams that is),and I think that you will make maximum profits opposing all SA teams against NZ teams this year. The Crusaders were decidedly unimpressive for the 1st 30 minutes on friday, and yet once they found their game it was simply no contest. That is playing at Loftus, can you imagine what these teams are going to do to us in NZ.The pace with which the Blues are playing this season is simply awesome, and barring injuries I think this team is certainly the one to beat this year. The new rules really suit them.
You may have gotten this call wrong, but take the advice of someone who seldom bets on rugby matches and just empty each time a NZ team plays an SA team this year, you will end up with suitcases full of cash."
Everyone hates an after the event merchant, but I hope you got the lotski this weekend as the opportunities were still there.
However, the gaps are closing on the handicap as the bookies come to grips with the teams after 3 weeks, but there are still opportunities.Opposing the Bulls this year will bring maximum returns in my book. They are simply hopeless to put it bluntly.Besides Fourie Du Preez the haven't got a player of any note, and once they travel this side will crumble, especially if you consider how shot their confidence must be already.Even the lesser NZ teams will punish them to the maximum. The spreads are where the biggest returns will lie imo.
Fill your boots whilst you still have the chance to maximize profits!

Home win for the BULLS, and consider I lost a bottle of JWB to the concerned milkman, my rugby form is poor, but I agree that we have no chance this year against the overseas teams.

2 cents,
Like I stated before,I am certainly no rugby expert, although I do watch a lot of games. My punting capabilities when it comes to sport are limited,I just look for what I perceive as opportunities. To me the opportunities in the super 14 so far have been in opposing the SA teams against the foreign teams, especially the NZ teams.I will continue to punt in that vein, although I did back the Sharks against the Bulls this weekend.
Rugby : Super 14 - Week 4 - Early Prices - Bulls vs Lions - 04-03-2008 18:00:00
# Description Win Win Place Place Bet
1 Bulls ( -7.5 ) 0.7 7/10 0.14 1/7
2 Lions ( +7.5 ) 1.1 11/10 0.22 1/5
This is BP's early bird betting, and they had 8-10 the Bulls earlier this morning when I looked,so clearly they have punters who believe that the Bulls should be giving the Lions 10 or 11 points start as the 8-10 on 7,5 is gone now.Personally I could never have punt on a game like this. Our SA teams are simply putrid, and it becomes a game of pot luck imo.If you held a gun to my head I would back the Lions on the hcp, simply because the Bulls have not embraced the new rules which make rugby a running game now, offensively orienated as opposed to the defensively orientated SA teams, especially the Bulls. The Bulls simply don't look capable of scoring tries using their backline.
I actually thought that the Stormers played a much improved game on saturday, although they took a drubbing. They at least tried to use their backs and Peter Grant at least looked to keep the ball in hand,so maybe they are a team that might actually improve as the competition goes on,but the Bulls imo simply don't have the game plan to adapt to the ELV's and are to be opposed on all fronts.I was at Loftus when they played the Crusaders, and I was pulling my hair out after 30 minutes as the Crusaders made mistake after mistake. The Bulls were only in the game whilst they made mistakes though, and the moment the Crusaders started stringing their passes together and actually held onto the ball it became no contest.Although the Bulls held their own against the Sharks and could actually have won the game had JP Nel not been sent off,imo the conditions suited them more than the Sharks as the downpour prior to the game played into their hands.I think that they are hopeless at the moment, and will actually regress even further as the tournament proceeds. They just don't have the quality players or the game plan to compete this year.I perceive SA rugby to be on a huge downward spiral in the next few years, there is just too much wrong in it.The money is to be made by opposing SA teams.

This is the total points scored over the 3 weeks thus far:
Week 1:241 in 7 games
Week 2:311 in 7 games
Week 3:315 in 7 games
Clearly teams are realizing that you have to keep the ball in hand more and more. The Sharks in particular have kicked a lot of their ball away, although the wet ball factor due to the dew in Dbn and the rain downpour on friday may be mitigating factors in their favour. They could in fact be the 1 SA team to at least feature this year again as they have at least been winning and imo have not reached the top of their game yet. They could also win on the road if conditions allow, especially against the AUS teams.

JAP, I agree with your sentiments on the SA teams – and you have summed up the Bulls to a nicety.
They will lose many games this year after holding the early lead through penalties, as was the case against Saders and Sharks.
Can you imagine getting +2 ½ on handicap on the Crusaders after 30 mins against the Bulls?
And go high on the first try for the Bulls in the spreads – unless they wise up and make it something like 72 to 75 mins.

I see that Habana and Bakkies Botha are back this weekend.Clearly this is perceived as making a difference and I will just watch this game without any punts.
