Go there to watch the morning training. You don't get a much more relaxing spot than this...

Could GC not have built an all weather track at Summerveld instead of Greyville - is there not enough space? Was this investigated ?

An all weather work track is being built here already. Same as that will be built at Greyville. Not the infrastructure to race a big race meeting here.

Craig - would it not make sense to build a small stand and the necessary infrastructure to accommodate small meetings there - hardly anyone goes to the run of the mill meetings - the larger meetings can then be held at Greyville and Scottsville? Why mess with Greyville and then have field sizes limited to14 or is it 16 horses?

I think that you have more chance of attracting crowds/people to Greyville than out at Summerveld and the planning is to race nearly every Friday night at Greyville with top class venues and top outside restaurants as well. The grass tracks at Summerveld also have to support 1100+ horses working at the moment and another 400 or so when Clairwood closes. We have 1 grass track open on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays and 2 open on Tuesdays. The thinking at the moment is that on big meetings GC could race 4/6 races on grass and 4/6 on the all weather. There would have been no need to cancel the races as on July Day or any other day. I am sure that once all is done and running everyone will be happy with what has been done.
