Western Cape
39.4 million STD 26% down
KZN
69.7 million STD 13% down not as catastrophic as the other provinces
PE
27 million STD 21% down
Gauteng with no Kimberley
91 million STD 35% down
and u wonder why we have bomb results. How else do people making a living from horse racing keep the lights on.

You would also have to compare the number of trainers, jockeys, horses and owners...if these numbers also reduced, then it evens out, more or less.

The simple measure that I use as an owner is the number of months training costs are covered by an average winning stake ( ignoring features).
When my first horse went into training in 1996, a win covered 12 months training costs. 10 years ago it was down to 6 months. In CT now it is only 3 months.
Back then it was straight forward to get your horseracing losses as a tax deduction against your other earnings. Now, after a few years of losses, you get ring fenced.

That makes a whole lot of sense, from the owners perspective.
