Do they use fans to keep the horses cool on hot days in South Africa?noticed the fans spraying cold water on the horses in the saddling enclosures on a couple of tracks lately...

most fans watch on Tellytrack....don't go on course....:P

I very much doubt it Bob....but I don't know. But then again, I think we are more geared up for hot days...so stables will be well ventilated and shaded etc...

We have mist sprayers in all the holding and saddling boxes at Scottsville which is where it gets the hottest. Was 52 degrees on one day early this year . Luckily we were not racing that day.

?......pampered ponies.....was a time when horses were simply hosed down after a race or after morning work......that is where the saying......home and hosed.....actually came from......now days they get blanketed to absorb the post race sweat instead of a good old roll in a sandpit......:S
