has the handicapper now caught up with HENRY HIGGINS ?
11 years 11 months ago
so the question I ask - has the handicapper now caught up with HENRY HIGGINS ? what a super sand horse he is - no denying that, but yes I am having a go at the handicappers.
According to Paul on the T.V. yesterday, he's the only horse to win 7 races this season - quite an achievement I must say.
here's my gripe.
Feb HH off a MR 63 wins his 3rd race MR bumped up by 6 pts. COMES HOME LONELY.
Apr HH off a MR 69 wins his 4th race MR bumped up by 5 pts
May HH off a MR 74 wins his 5th race MR bumped up by 5 pts
Jun HH off a MR 79 wins his 6th race MR bumped up by 3 pts ???
Jul HH off a MR 82 wins his 7th race.........COMES HOME LONELY SMOKIN A PIPE....... MR bumped up by 8 pts ABOUT TIME
NOW racing off a MR 90 !!
by comparison my horse SILVER SPEC. wins his 4th race ( in two seasons ) goes from MR 76 TO MR 84 up 8 pts !!!!
quite a jump that 8 pts in one hit, horse has never been the same again.. has never won again, & quite rightly going down in the MR
So by comparison HH after winning 4 had a MR 74 - Silver spe. after winning 4 had a MR 84 !
all I'm asking for is consistency MR HANDICAPPER, please when bumping up the points.

slightly off the subject but is it just me or has the form book on the sand become inconsistent of late...iv always enjoyed sand racing from a punting perspective but iv noticed alarming form reversals of late..3 to 4 lengths i can accept but 10 lengths or more definitly not

Not just you Pirates have always been one of the biggest fans of the Vaal Sand but have just gone off it a bit of late.

i AGREE WITH SHREK AND PIRATES
the vaal sand is not running as before (+-3months back). The seasonal change has had its influence .
Its running a lot slower .I would imagine that applying more water on the track will improve the way its running at the moment .

THH would be a good person to answer the question about the track. Interesting to me that some of us have been saying this on the threads over the last month or two which coincided with THH making a return from an absence which, if memory serves me right, was because he was becoming a little disillusioned with how they were running. Strange that he returns just as some of us start scratching our heads!
Vaccinations may be playing a role here too. My impression is the same for Kimberley but I think that may have more to do with certain trainers than anything else.
Elvis... I don't know anything about it but there certainly seems a huge inconsistency there. Would be nice if Magic Lips made a reappearance to offer some explanation.

i also agree that the sand is not what it used to be. some results (reversals) are inexplicable.

In Sept last year, your horse beat Henry Higgings by 3.75L and 8kgs in a MR72 Hcp 2000m.
You where a 76 at the time so you elected to carry 2kgs above the 60kg line really setting yourself up if you won by any kind of margin.
On Turf terms you beat HH by about 6 points, but they lumped you and extra 2 points, or maybe they rate differently on sand. To be fair, it was your 3rd hcp win in 4 starts. The favourite that race was the 2nd top weight Fort Lodge (70) 59Kgs. You gave him 3kgs and beat him 9 lengths running a 91 if he ran his rating in 4th. Clearly that was your run and a month and a half later the spark had gone.
Conversely, Henry Higgens spent most of it's time since then running in hcps where he carried often 52 and 53 so it was much harder to pick up penalties

The hcpper is mostly consistent, that race turned out to be your undoing to a degree, but also the following performances was not due to the handicapper as Silver started getting beaten by 8L and more, hardly the fault of a few pound error even if there was one.
