The winner set a new course record, that says that he is no slouch.

Shea Shea career form at more than 1100 metres:
3-1-1-5-1-1-2-6-1-3-6-4
Shea Shea career form at 1100 metres or less:
2-1-3-1-1-7-1-1-2
I didn't think the distance would be an issue but I have to admit his form over shorter is stronger.
Let's not forget that he was beaten by a few lengths more than yesterday's defeat in his last two starts over 1160 metres at Turffontein.
I wouldn't go writing him off just yet.

Whatever the form book says, and i dont know what the instructions were from MDK but with track running like lightening it was obvious that being up with the pace was the way to go. Yes hindsight is an exact science but the horse clearly wanted to be up with the speed early on and CS just about pulled his neck off trying to drop him out. It was a ludicrous move considering the going and that sprints can be won and lost in a moments hesitation or mistake. I don't say Shea shea would have won but I think he did well to finish where he did in the end. Maybe 6 furlongs is not his best trip but that ride gave him no chance.
I always remember Anton saying he never likes to fight a horse and will let the horse dictate how he should ride it.

Saks would you be looking to replace Christoff if you were in De Kocks situation?

de Kock has no choice in the matter as CS is retained by the Sheik.

The Shaky Sheik has nothing do with Shea Shea. Brian Joffe and Myron Berzack are the owners.
I'd rather have a rider who knows the UK courses better than Soumillon. CS clearly got his fractions wrong but can maybe make amends in the Abbaye.
