As I suspected they would be my July fancies were w-a-a-a-a-y off the mark.
But probably not as far off the mark as all those earnest characters that cluttered up the TV during the week with their '1,5kg better off' and '2kg worse off' calculations.
After the July I decided to go back to the most reliable method in the world insofar as horses are concerned : GUESSING.
This was not too difficult and quickly yielded the required 'get out of it' bet. With a nod to Computaform, Winning Form and Formgrids this is how it panned out :
Heavy Metal had won the July. Right? So clearly it was a day for rock music. Here Guns & Roses came to my rescue with November Rain in the 10th. That it is a PE horse just strengthened my resolve because I have long argued that PE horses are probably as good, if not better, than most of mule meat racing in Durban.
Because I am not as brave as I would like you to believe I took about R30k of the winner and covered my stake on Merhee. Coconut!
Come to think of it - I could have probably achieved the same result with an exacta but then I don't use the tote.
