Turffontein Race Sponsorship - Stakes ?'s That Need Answering
17 years 3 months ago
There were 55 races at Turffontein in the month of February.
16 of these races were branded with the Phumelela Computaform name
14 of races were allocated the Phumelela / Citizen pullout Racing Express brand
10 were saddled with the Tote Soccer 6 product
5 races were run under the Racing Association name
There 10 other races not branded with Phumelela products.
Now then........
How much, if anything, do Computaform, Racing Express, Soccer 6 pay to have their names associated with Gauteng races. Is there any element of cross charging within Phumelela?
If the likes of Computaform, RXP, S6 pay anything, where is the money allocated, does it benefit the stakes owners race for...?
If the above pay nothing, are we to believe that it is not possible to find race sponsors or is it just an easy option to put up an in house product as part of the "we are the only game in town" mentality Phumelela have adopted.
Are the RA following suit by increasingly having their name associated with races?
The stakes agreement - is there any provision for funds from the sponsorship of races to filter it's way to the stakes pot.
Look at the Guineas day card, how can we not pull sponsors for one of the premier days of the season, do Phumelela try "hard enough"...?
Is it not all to easy to get wrapped up in the apparent details of the stakes pot arguement and neglect the obvious...? Scaremongering over protecting Tote revenues to the benefit of the stakes pot is a weak defence in view of the above, imvho

Thought this was an interesting thread.
If no one is willing to sponsor the races in P land.
Why not offer free sponsorship of selected meeting to corporates as long as the put up some sign age similar to a golf day. Invite a few guests
Being turfiest names that would work
Perhaps the Nigerian consulate Handicap ,
411 scam plate
Neighborhood watch novice plate
Fire the marketing manager and get some one who know about marketing and not about horses.

If you compare Turffies on Guineas day with the card for Scottsville on Sunday, you will see which of our two racing operators seeks sponsors for the good of game, and which one is happy to sit back and promote........errrrrm........itself.
Marketing guru Robert Garner and his fellow Phumelela board members are responsible for this strategy, perhaps the RA in their capacity of "P" land racing watchdogs will take them to task, then again, perhaps not.
One things for sure, they will all be pissing in each others pockets come Saturday
