UNBELIEVABLE (Punters get Scr*w*d AGAIN)
11 years 11 months ago
Good evening to all reading this post, I thought I would bring this up because today I actually saw it happening right in front of my own eyes and have decided to take further action and request any punter to support my actions in trying to resolve this from happening. I might not get it right but I'm fed up with dishonest, low life, cheating bookmakers who take away what little punters make in certain races.
I'm referring to a race run today, Race 3 at Wolverhampton where 9 runners were carded to run. I decided to back a 1st timer No. 2 Claim The Roses (USA) at 12/1, I was offered 14/1 for a few hundred and took my bet 20 minutes before the race was due. No problems yet... Claim The Roses continued finding support and was eventually backed into 9/1 or somewhere around there. No 4 Ocean Storm (IRE) was favorite and 2nd fav. was No 5 Solidarity at 7/2. All horses were clearly seen on Tellytrack milling around the stalls commencing loading with the exception of No 5 Solidarity who was clearly seen with the Jockey standing beside the horse removing the saddle completely. During the next 45 seconds the horse was claimed, went 33/10 *** 3/1 *** 22/10 *** 18/10 all within 45 seconds and then naturally the horse gets scratched hence all winning bets strike a 35% deduction.
My point is the horse was clearly going to be declared a non-runner milling around with no jockey and a removed saddle so I ask if this is fair. There would have been a 20% deduction which is fair but within 45 seconds, knowing the horse was going to be scratched some Bookmaker claimed the horse in order to increase the deduction and benefit a full refund on the scratched horse.
I sincerely hope that something gets done and those who are responsible for not just this occasion but for those that have been subjected to these loop holes day in day out. I will post more pending investigation...

I backed solidarity @ 15 /8 about 10 minutes before the off ,the price collapsed in the UK also , but it wasn't because the horse was playing up it was because Wolverhampton has the weakest betting market in the UK, on track bookies make the prices in the UK so it takes two bags of jelly babies to shorten a horse at wolves

Hibs... Are you saying our bookies cannot claim a horse in the UK. Please excuse my ignorance but I'd like to know because I found this very weird and have never seen a horse shorten so quickly when we all knew it was going to be a non-runner. If it's not appropriate hibs I understand and the post can be removed but I'm amongst 13 other punters who all saw the exact same thing, one of those times I wished I took a pic of the betting boards frame by frame.

Okay cool. All is good and well and I apologise once again fo slandering the "bookies"... I guess it's horse racing, just seemed a little unfair at the time. I still collected a decent dividend, I guess 9,5k is better than nothing but 14k would have been so much better
Thanks for clearing this up hibs...

all i can say the price was not available in the uk a long time before the incident happened, maybe the price changes were decimated with a delay..
Not defending any bookies, just trying to explain what i thought happened..

I backed a horse last year some time, and then a horse broke through the gets, this horse was 16/1 ,as it was running around the track it shortened to 12/1,I side to myself how would back a horse running around the track. It all makes sense to me now, we are always on the losing side.

I completely understand hibs's point of view and the clarification makes 100% sense however for future reference just keep an eye on what transpires during the loading process, when horses play up they shorten quickly, if they are stubborn to load... watch the betting it rapidly decreases (16/1 to 10/1 to 8/1 : half the odds on most occasions) but mostly in the UK. I met with a gentlemen last night (whom I've know for some time) who is partenered with two major bookmakers and despite having reservations of what he was allowed to tell me I still have the hairs on the back of my neck standing from what he spilt out (hush hush) and I'm not at all surprised certain horses shorten very quickly for certain reasons locally and internationally. I have the answers I was looking for and WOW :

Glad you brought this up 50 2 1..................it's happening too often now in S.A. I saw the other day a mate who got the inside info
back a horse one day before the race and then the market favorite gets scratched on race day, hence big deductions.
I think S.A. is the ONLY country in the world where horses are withdrawn at the start so frequently.....................why???
Back in the day when the bookies laid on course, the could get layed proper b'cos no laptops etc. to tumble and restrict odds, all theY did was write the HORSE'S INITIALS on a paper ticket and that could be worth a few 1OO,OOO---'S.

you never see a bookie on a bycycle (unless he is trying to get fit) they are not in it for fun and certainly not in it to lose money
