FIVE MAN FALL IN HONG KONG LEAVES JOCKEY WITH BROKEN ARM
Following an incident in Race 2 at last night’s Happy Valley racemeeting in which five jockeys sustained falls, the following update is provided in relation to the current status of the relevant riders:-
Howard Y T Cheng
Jockey Y T Cheng, who was transported directly to hospital for medical attention, has been diagnosed to have sustained a fracture to his left arm as well as suffering from a rib injury. It has been confirmed that Jockey Cheng will undergo surgery on his injured arm tomorrow. However, X-rays have revealed that there is no fracture to his left leg, as initially thought yesterday.
Douglas Whyte
Jockey D Whyte will this afternoon attend a specialist appointment to ascertain whether he has sustained any head injury which would affect his eligibility to ride at the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 23 June 2013. It is anticipated that the results of this examination will be known tomorrow morning.
Vincent C Y Ho
Jockey C Y Ho, who was also transported to hospital immediately following the incident, remained in hospital overnight for observation and further assessment. Whilst Jockey Ho has some general neck pain, he has been cleared of any significant injuries and is likely to be released from hospital later today. Jockey Ho resumes race riding following a careless riding suspension on Thursday, 27 June 2013.
Eddy W M Lai
Jockey W M Lai, who was stood down following his ride on OCEAN ROAR due to soreness in his left shoulder, was earlier today examined by the Club’s approved medical provider. Jockey Lai reported that this morning he had developed soreness to his left foot. Whilst X-rays have cleared him of any fracture to this foot, the medical officer has advised that Jockey Lai is considered unfit to ride on Sunday, 23 June 2013 and as a consequence he has been stood down from his riding engagements on that day. Riding replacements will be issued tomorrow.
Tye Angland
Jockey T Angland, who was cleared to continue riding for the remainder of the Happy Valley racemeeting last night after his fall from LORD DRAGON, has advised that he is suffering no ill-effects from the fall. Therefore Jockey Angland will not be required to undergo any further medical assessment at this stage.
Zac Purton
The Club felt appropriate to also provide an update on the status of Jockey Z Purton who was stood down following his ride on DARS AUTO at the Sha Tin racemeeting on 16 June 2013 due to a medical condition. Jockey Purton was earlier today re-admitted to hospital for further treatment in relation to the aforementioned medical condition. Whilst Jockey Purton remains hopeful of being able to fulfil his riding engagements at the Sha Tin racemeeting on 23 June 2013, a further release will be issued at the appropriate time in relation to his availability.
