Starting stalls schooling
12 years 2 days ago
There is a need to improve the schooling at the stalls............why not consider putting the badly behaved horses in first?.........no better incentive to up the bar at home,or risk injury etc.at the races???
Why should well schooled horses be made to wait in the stalls and get restless?

Starting stall certificates is handed out , problem is the person giving it out for poor behaved horses
That will force trainers to do their job by schooling them properly

I think the horses should be loaded in reverse order of the betting with perhaps some exceptions. Why should a favourite be loaded first and an outsider last?

I have to agree 100%
It's a bloody nuisance, when a unruly outsider messes the race up

Horses and trainers go to the course in the mornings with the stipes and a starter and are then graded according to their behavior . This is then recorded and the starter on race day will have that info and load accordingly with his team. Anyway that's how it was a long time ago before I found an ABSOLUTE solution it may have changed a bit since then. But Rob I near what you say and a badly behaved horse going in early makes no sense purely cause it would cause chaos with all the handlers and other well behaved horses ( ok well schooled ) paying the penalty. But I guess that's the point many of them are just badly schooled or graded by whoever is now doing that job! But have to agree our starts must be the worst in the world of racing , however I have not witnessed any racing in Iceland or Madagascar or the DRC . But judging on the amount of DRC car Guards in most parking lots in Guateng I haven't seen a false start yet ! They now come to the lounge to get their starting stall certificate and a free dop after 6 cause they know most of us don't know what day it is by then. Bit like some of our current officials are at the moment. Shit that took along time to type - amazing!

Just as important if not more important is to get properly paid professional handlers at the start. If they did their job properly we would load twice as fast and have half the problems once horses are loaded......u want to pay peanuts u gong to get untrained monkeys!

How about dishing out fines to trainers for any unruly horses that take longer than x amount of time to load and double it if they are then scratched. That might get a few giving it a little more priority... but are we not kidding ourselves here, is anything ever done about this type of thing or is the customary blind eye turned?
Maybe if they fined the trainers they could spend the proceeds on training the starters on false starts (

I have seen some bad handlers that actually seem to upset a horse rather than guide it

How about loading the horses into the wrong stalls (AGAIN), thank goodness they realised on Saturday before sending the horses home.

I don't know if the rules have changed for jockeys, but previously they were not allowed to " back chat / chirp " the starter - if they did so they would incur a fine. all fine & well.
If a horse / jock is loaded into the WRONG STALL - surely there should be no fine imposed for the jock shouting out - "hey you morons i'm loaded into the wrong stall "
as i say - don't know if rules have changed re jocks chirping starter in this case - TOTALLY CALLED FOR.

The Trainers are too lazy to school their horses, hence the rise of the"horse-whisperer". Any trainer that is worth his salt as a horseman will be able to school 95% of his string.
Betting should not influence the loading order either, that's BS
They should load: horse drawn 1 - first, draw 2 - second... Easy.
