Main Man beat them both carrying bottom weight and getting 8kg from Model Man. Model Man was a year older than BushT and was as a 4yo matured into the better of the two but we never saw the best of BT as an older horse as he suffered a heart problem which shortened his career. BT won the July in fine style and was the better 3yo of the two.

Always love these discussions... Its the essence of this game, and ultimately the bond that we all share; to reminisce about the days of yester year...

I have never seen either of this horses race as it was before my time, but I do recall similar debates between my old man and his. Debates like these usually go on for decades without reaching settlement. (:P)

Lets try another one.......

Who do you think was better? Classic Flag or Jet Master. Both were exceptional horses. Both were real cheap buys for their respective owners. I cannot recall exactly how many times they met, I can only remember one off hand, the Cape Guineas of their year. Jet Master prevailed over CF (Strydom). CF had a troubled trip and failed by half a length or so.

Opinions?

In weight for age terms Model Man's performance was easily superior - his July run was one of the best losing runs in history as he didn't have the best passage and was miles out of his ground when turning for home - yet he still got within 1,25 lengths of Bush despite conceding 8kg (weight for age at that time of the year is 2kg for 3yos).

In the Mainstay over 1800m Model Man got there a fraction of a second too late when conceding 8kg and weight for age over that trip was 1,5kg for 3yos.

Jet Master was an exceptional sprinter/miler much like Variety Club whilst Classic Flag was a better horse over 1800-2000 so it is a bit like Jackson trying to take on Variety Club over a mile...a much better debate would be which one is the better over a mile...Variety Club or Jet Master and add in Pocket Power for good measure :-)
