Sir Alex Ferguson Set to Retire as Manchester United Manager This Week
by The Newshound May 7th, 2013
Comments
Old Trafford boss ready to quit his post after over a quarter of a century in his post.
Check in to Manchester United vs Swansea City
Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly set to announce his retirement as manager of Man United according to the Daily Telegraph.
Rumours of the 71 year old’s imminent departure from his Old Trafford post have spread like wildfire and the Premier League champions have not moved to deny or confirm the mounting speculation.
Ferguson has been in charge of Man United for 26 years but there has been renewed talk of David Moyes leaving Everton to take over from the Scot and with the ageing boss set to undergo a hip replacement in August the hugely successful manager may feel it’s time to leave his post.
Ferguson picked up his 13th league title this term and could feel that having done so he could leave the club on a relative high.
The former Aberdeen boss took over from Ron Atkinson in November 1986 and initially struggled to make an impact, with some maintaining that a Mark Robins goal against Nottingham Forest in a FA Cup tie in 1990 kept Ferguson in the job, he went on to guide Man United to an FA Cup Final success over Crystal Palace and collected a Cup Winners Cup triumph the following season.
Ferguson’s side then took a firm control over domestic football dominance, securing eight Premier League titles in the space of 11 seasons before a three season spell without success.
His Man United side have gone on to win four of the last six domestic crowns and the Glasgow born boss has also collected two Champions League crowns amongst a host of successes spanning his time in charge of the club.

Howard Webb to take up a Player/Manager role?

On a serious note, what a great manager and deserves all the praise that he gets!

I wonder if Jose is going there as his talks with Chelsea have apparently stalled over night.
