(27-May-2013)
MICHAEL CLOWER
Jackson now looks most unlikely to be ready in time for the Vodacom Durban July and he could be scratched as early as this week. However, all is not lost with last year’s big race favourite.
The four-year-old has not raced since the J&B Met. He missed last week’s Pinnacle Stakes and is not among the original entries for Saturday week’s Rising Sun Gold Challenge, his original target.
Brett Crawford said: “Jackson is now coming right and he is doing very well but he won’t be ready for the Gold Challenge and we are running out of time to prep him for the July.
“I think it’s 90% that the July is not going to happen with him and we are not going to keep the public hanging on. We will probably make a decision within the next week.”
Last year’s Investec Cape Derby and Daily News winner has drifted steadily from 8-1 second favourite to his present 20-1 as his trainer has adopted a deliberately patient policy.
Crawford said: “It is in the horse’s interests to only bring him back when he is ready, and we certainly don’t want to force him. However he will be ready for the Champions Cup at Greyville on 27 July and he could have a prep run in the Mercury Sprint at Clairwood a fortnight before that.”
Stable companion Thunder Dance, also a dual Grade 1 winner, remains on course for a prep run at Turffontein next month and the Garden Province on July day.
She was to have been the star attraction at last Thursday’s Cape mare sale at Worcester but was withdrawn when Klawervlei reached agreement over price with fellow joint owner Ian Longmore.
Klawervlei boss John Koster said: “We now own her 100% and she will race on for this season. We haven’t yet made up our minds what stallion she will go to but we are considering quite a few options.
“We are pleased to have her from a breeding point of view as well as from just the racing angle. You don’t get many better than her.”

Information/Transparency on the horse prior to the CTC challenge would have been ideal....:X I guess thats what makes it a competition loaded with luck...
Now my one entry for the challenge may be blown out the water....:)o. better luck next year...

Yes Russell, last year I had Shea Shea in virtually every entry and we found out just after the start of the comp that he was going overseas. :X

I am hoping for a big haul on Saturday as I am represented by Blake, COTT, Yorker, CTN, Tellina and Wylie Hall over my various entries.

Took Jet Aglow over Do You Remember for my entry, thought JA would be more versatile. Really bleak now and Jackson's Champions season will be limited as well. At least River Crossing brought some joy and maybe True Master and KOP can bring some more good tidings tomorrow, it is absolutely bucketing down here in the cape though. Thunder, lightning, the works and with more thunderstorms tomorrow the meeting looks in jeopardy.

Here's to hoping that Saturday is not as miserable as today was, hope they both hold their places in the race. KOP seems to be aimed at the July and it may interrupt the prep schedule, if True Master wins this one the winter derby is a race that looks as if it may be at his mercy.
