Brilliant idea. May not be easy to sell it to P, but worth a try. Nothing would be more fitting to honour a remarkable man.
Unfortunately our records don't go back far enough to be absolutely certain about how many times Buddy won the Computaform Sprint, but I can tell you that he won it twice with Golden Loom and once with Fov's Favourite. I suspect that's the whole tally, but I stand to be corrected. I don't think Buddy won the race after the demise of Gosforth Park, but did go very close (behind Laisserfaire) will All Will Be Well the first time it was run at Newmarket.
I doubt that there was a day in the last six years that Buddy didn't mourn the loss of Gosforth Park. He did of course win plenty of good races elsewhere, and it is fitting that just a few months ago Byblos won the race named after Golden Loom (in the same colours, of course), but he was particularly deadly in those lightning fast 1000m races at dear old Gosforth.
I have fond memories of many a day spent at the Germiston track with Buddy and various patrons - including the occasion of Golden Loom's first win in the Computaform Sprint. He tried so hard to hide his pre-race nerves (Goofy was odds-on favourite), but it didn't fool anybody! After the race was another matter...one of those memories that will live forever.
It will be a travesty indeed if we can't get at least some other race named after Buddy Maroun, if not the Computaform Sprint.

Magic, the computerform racing quide is OWNED BY P so surely there would be no problem to rename this race.
THE BUDDY MAROUN COMPUTERFORM SPRINT - or as mentioned above by wiseowl.
one doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to make changes here with the race name - if they so desire.

I hope you're right, Elvis! I agree that it shouldn't be a problem, but long experience in the racing industry has made me realize that making mountain ranges out of molehills is something that racing's powers-that-be have a real talent for.
Let's hope P see the light. As you say, it really should not be a problem, and if they do agree let's hope it's in perpetuity and not just as a once-off.
