Totally agree Tommy & Craig - for the punters to call for Marcus's head on this instance is absurd, how can you blame the jock for the false start not being called, you play the game until you hear the whistle / Siren, if Marcus and all others pulled up there mounts and let MS "catch up" the other horses would then be at a disadvantage as MS would be up a gear to all the others, nobody can be blamed other than officials in this instance...

Best thing to do would of been a re-run on the 24th with races 7-9!
And hopefully those new stalls arrive before then :)

How can you blame Craig Peters? The riders can only hear him on the replay so it's your opinion that lacks value, and what you value has none.

The QP false start was called correctly - it was a false start. The Clairwood runners should have been called back as it was clearly a false start. The Durban starters screwed up. Nothing to do with the owner, that's just paranoia to suggest, all the fault of the starters.

The question i want to ask with this rule is:

what if there are only 4 horses starting in the field? Do ALL horses become "runners" regardless of how long the gates take to open on a particular horse?

1. Gold Circle need to ensure that the equipment is up to standard. Stalls are not and that is GC management responsibility.
2. The Starter failed to call a false start which is human error. Starter is at fault but also NHRA and GC since it is their responsibility to ensure that there are competent officials. We have far too many problems at the start all round the country.
3. The rule in question is flawed and that is an NHRA and operator problem since they wrote the rules.
4 The stipendary stewards on duty DO have discretion in a case like this. They should have declared the race null and void since the favorite was impeded by a faulty gate yet the starter failed to call a false start.
5. Notwithstanding the cock-up, the crowd behaviour was unacceptable.
6. On top of it all, GC management also need to take responsibity for the fact that a stray dog was able to enter the course and could have caused further havoc with the runners.
7. To blame the jockeys and the commentator is ludicrous.

The question I would like to know is, what if the horse ran 4th and it was the banker in a large/ multiple PA.
That perm would be a losing ticket.
Now, if the horse was scratched and the ruling favourite ran into the placing, then the scratching would have gone onto the favourite. That ticket would survive.
