Tearing up as he announced Chavez's death after a long battle with cancer, Maduro called on Venezuelans to remain respectful.

Venezuelan officials called for peace and unity after President Hugo Chavez's death on Tuesday, emphasizing in state television broadcasts that all branches of the government and the military were standing together.

Expelled ANC Youth League president Julius Malema mourns the passing of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.

"Comrade Chavez was an inspiration to all progressive forces around the world.... His defiance of imperialism and his insistence that Venezuela's vast oil reserves be used to uplift the masses of the people has changed the lives of millions of people," spokesman Khaya Xaba said.

Xaba said that while capitalists sneered at socialism, and major imperial forces disrupted it, Chavez had shown how socialism could benefit all. (DREAM ON)

cost of fuel at the pumps in Venezuela? 18 american cents for a gallon. At least he did not rip his own people off like most of the worlds governments do. Even if the likes of the UK produced as much crude as Venezuela does the cost would still be the same. This guy said it like he saw it. Its a pity that we have so many politicians who hide.

Well said C & C, his country and the world is a lot poorer with the passing of this great leader, wish some of his characteristics could have rubbed off on some of other leaders, abroad and home.:(

I agree with both of your comments.

One only has to see the news and hear comments from ordinary citizens in that country to enforce your views.

From all accounts, he had made a huge difference to uplift the ordinary citizens in the last 14 years.

SA has had 19 years to do the same.........all I see is the rich getting richer and the increasing fraud and corruption.
