when you watch the video,this taxi driver was strongly resisting arrest and those three policemen were struggling to hold him.
Watching further,they place him in the back of the van and handcuff him to the seat........he jumps out!
I dont think the driver of the policevan knew the prisoner jumped out when he started to drive off.Hence he got dragged.The first part of the video would be a natural police reaction.
The second part is the brutal bit.The policemen at the back of the van should have told their comrade to stop the vehicle.
Theres also proof that a policeman did run after the van,catch the prisoners feet and lift it off the ground,so some humanity there.

@Bashful:
1.
Taxi drivers racing on the yellow lines, and darting inbetween cars on the roads; not drag racing?
2.
I never raised the question of respect; why single me out and be personal? Do I know /owe / or harmed you in any way?
There have been numerous 'light work' comments on many other serious issues on this site; why did you not pitch to castigate them?
3.
Perhaps, you need to understand the role of mass media in communication; one entity / individual can say whatever to a million readers. Yet, not even 1% of the recipients can ever get to respond. Besides, they have their own agendas which I don't control or direct (or ever can)!
Finally, let's promote peace and better understanding in this viciously finger-pointing world (with some sense of humour of course)!

Thank you, sir! That's the striking thing I also noticed, despite having on blinkers against the police (conditioned by the heading) before watching the video!

To be brutally honest and this is in context with the title of this thread, there are far too many asylum seekers in the country and it's time the SAP rounded them up with proof of ID etc.
To the vast majority of them this is the land of milk and honey, it's like going to the big apple in the States.

Imigration aside sa cops are under more pressure than cops anywhere else
I don't have figs or stats but I watched a show (either louis theroux or ross kemp) that highlighted their plight.
A school friend of mine is a guy called mark joseph. He is head of sap soweto ill contact him over the weekend and get some stats.
Not condoning their actions just putting them into perspective.

@Gregbucks et al:
' i cannot believe you people are defending what they did to this poor chap...'
No ways are (I presume) defending or accepting what was done to the chap.
Looking at the total scenario, there is also another side to the tragic incident which we are equally against.
The point is: a suspect resisting arrest quite forcefully.... for whatever reason. In the same breath, police not prepared or up to the task to subdue him as would be appropriate (or, like the NY police?).

this is at best a Traffic violation - How on Earth can it result in a "Death In Detention" - Next it may be you or your Wife that parks in a Loading Zone and then ends up dead. Wrong is wrong regardless of the man's ethnicity or profession!!
