Breeding info please
12 years 3 months ago
Can any experts ( or clanners who know these things ) enlighten me on the following...
When the race card says that a horse is bred at such and such a place what does that mean exactly ? Going through tomorrow's card at Greyville for instance I see that some horses who are sired by certain sires are actually bred by different breeders or in some cases by a combination of breeders eg one horse is bred by G A R Sturlese and Summerhill Stud.
Does 'bred by' mean broken in by, brought up by, etc ?
Any info will be quite welcome, thanks and in my case please use small english words...

The one who owns the mare is credited with the breeding. Well, that's what I think I have always understood....

Interesting?
Example if I send missD back her birth place at Summerhill and have her covered by Ravishing ( cover paid for)
I will own the mare but thought on any documentation it would say bred at Summerhill and not by Dave Scott?

All depends if you are a registered breeder.....u spell the mare at Summerhill and aren't a registered breeder then Summerhill will be down as the breeder in the card.

ravishing is not longer by summerhill he is with orange now
dave many people board there mare by the stud and do not be register as the breeder so the stud do all the [a[erwork and ger credit for being breeder. so if you are registered breeder and send miss d to a stud you can be listed as breeder although your dick never leave your pants
if you no register as breeder the stud take the "credit"

Breeders have to be registered, and just like owners colours it's an annual renewal be it an individual or a farm.
It has nothing to do with where the mare is/was. Every year the registered breeder will complete or update a form declaring the mares which they have accumulated by similar change of ownership forms and fees from selling individuals or auctions.
Whoever "owns" the mare at the time she foals, ie is listed on the NHA database which only happens if you have handed in the form and paid, is the registered breeder irrespective of whether they may have bought the mare while pregnant. Basically, whoever has paid the appropriate fee at specific times is the breeder, just like whoever paid the licence disk for a car is "it" untill the transfer of ownership form is handed in an payed for.
