Turbo Tom looks like a runner with the weight off...

Why would we have two consecutive meetings on the Vaal outside track (today and Thursday)? Plenty of alternatives available, Turffies on Thursday (or even Thursday night?), Vaal sand, or at least have one meeting on the inner track where they race some races around the turn?
And in answer to Yeldah, I myself have not really noticed any draw bias down the Vaal straight recently - perhaps someone else can comment?
I think it's a very tough card today, and the only seemingly good thing (Negev) could face some competition from Orator's Daughter (who has been supplemented to the Fillies Guineas)

Brief jottings for Vaal... firstly, I agree with Frodo in that the draw advantage at Vaal has become very confusing recently and ultimately, there may not have been much of one in recent meetings. Possibly, I would think it is more important to be on the side with the pace.
R1 If there is something of a w/rider cavalry charge then it may play into the hooves of Overdraft, some ok form and dropping in trip with a decent w/r aboard. Seemingly drawn nicely and trainer in form. Cornish Duchess and Secret Spirit could fill the places. I will also have a small e/w on Rubies and Pearls, rider has excellent recent record. Obviously had issues but can find excuses if you want and may just be a joker in the pack.
R2 Ushokolethi has run well at the course previously and has PS who has ridden some of the main rivals. The main danger for me and a possible small e/w horse is Handsome Dancer, a long time maiden but some not so bad efforts. National Lady for the trifecta.
R3 Fairly open imo. I'll take a small e/w chance that the 2nd time out de Kock trained Greystone will show plenty of improvement. Of the two A Laird contenders I prefer Magnolia Man but that could easily be wrong. Posse Posse for 3rd. Complete idiot for the not feint-hearted, Chapel of Love. Will need to break on terms but if so doing has two places in 4 distance runs and 2/6 places on course. At 50s a rand or two won't hurt.
R4 I would not be surprised if Orator's Daughter beats Negev but won't bet on it. Legal Account could be place value if breaking on terms.
R5 Casey Novak has obvious chances and Kappelmeister may follow him home. But I'm going to take another small e/w idiots chance with Ahoy Captain. Although 2nd run after rest, has won twice and second twice in 12 efforts on course and prior to the rest was in fair form. Possibly also better without the blinkers. Another at a price worthy of a look imo is Eugenes who won by 4+ lengths when last on course.
R6 I am also in the Turbo Tom camp in a tough race. Another with weight off and for me, interestingly, has PS up, is Miss Cantona. That will form my exacta and adding Eagle Face for a value trifecta.
R7 As in R6, I like those with the weight off and am drawn most to Grootfontein, who despite being eased got up to win when returning to sprints last time. Victrixit and Immediately for the places if Alcanina, who is obviously a big possible, fluffs. Very well backed when winning on debut and could be very good but form yet to be franked and I am not a big fan of first time out after a maiden win, even if it was her only run!
R8 Plenty with chances. From the last race behind Stronghold, I like O'Driscoll to come out best, was the closest and now has PS up. Commission Due to follow. But, again, I am going to go with a small e/w on the much better priced Memeza. If you ignore the last run when poorly drawn at Turf, Memeza looks to have O'Driscoll held on their previous meeting behind Stronghold on c/d.
Be(s)t of luck to all (tu) and to Shrek with MW in the last (tu)
