KZN STAKES INCREASE
12 years 3 months ago
Stakes for the minor race programme in KwaZulu-Natal will increase by an average of 11% as from March 1, 2013.
Making the announcement, Gold Circle Racing and Marketing Executive, Graeme Hawkins, said: "It is Gold Circle's vision that the increase in stakes for minor races heralds an era of growth for owners and trainers in KwaZulu-Natal. I have every confidence that horse racing in this province will go from strength to strength."
The highest percentage increase will be for Pinnacle Plate races that will rise by 21% to R115 000.
With few exceptions the stakes for all races will increase by between 10 and 11 % with the stakes for Maiden races increasing to R66 000 and Maiden Juvenile races to R72 000.
Races at the top end of the handicap scale will all be worth R100 000 or more.

Very good in light of the latest CPI = 5.7%.
Or has the (impending) sale of Clairwood contributed to the 11% increase?

mr hawkins what you fail to add to your shpiel is that in 2007 A MAIDEN PLATE WAS 60K A NOVICE PLATE WAS 65K AND SO ON AND ON we can compare the new stakes from the 1st of march2013 to 2007stakes....maiden plates lets focus on them as they make up 30 to 40 percent of the total races for the year AND THEY HAVE INCREASED FROM 60K IN 2007 TO 66K IN 2013.....NOW PLEASE INFORM US WHAT HAVE TRAINING VETENARY FEED SHOES GROOMS WAGES ETC GONE UP FROM FROM 2007 TO 2013??????????? HAVE THEY ALSO GONE UP 10 PERCENT????? on top of yr great announcement u say pinnacle plates have gone up a whopping 21 percent tell me how many pinnacle plates do you have a month?bullshit baffles brains ....

Funny how you still keeping shares in horses from 2007 to 2013, you find all these stats to have go at Natal racing yet you still want to be a part of it ?

I think, and I may be wrong here as I'm not on the grass roots when it comes to training fees and veterinary costs but the world wide economy was at an absolute boom in 2006/2007 where you could do no wrong on any stock in any part of the globe.....
Then 2008 hit and we all know what happened. America slumped into a recession and the world followed......
Now come 2013 there are stakes increases again, perhaps not to the levels of 2007 but at least an increase is just that, an increase. I guess the stakes could have remained flat for another year...........
We all have to start the re build somewhere Pirates and I guess with an average of 10% stakes increases across the board it isn't the worst place to do so?
I don't like the racing administrators around the country because I think they are short sighted in certain areas but at least they are attempting a turn around with stakes........
The world is still in a big, fat hole and I'm sure South Africa is not immune.........
My opinion only of course, unless SA racing is in far better shape than the rest of the worlds economy.

You are right TH, at least we got an increase. We are going in the right direction. Why not just be happy and say " thank you"?

I think in 2005/6 they were charging a basic of 45 pounds a day as a basic charge in UK.
