AHS update - some good news to end the year on:

Professor Guthrie received good news last night regarding the Real Time
PCR test , when the Equine Research Councils' scientific paper passed the
scrutiny of the external reviewers and it will now be published in the
highly reputable Journal of Virological Methods.

Whilst the final phase of validation continues to progress
(inter-laboratory analysis), this at least provides a water-tightscientific basis for discussion with importing countries wishing to
either adopt the test or to engage with us at an export level.

Secondly, the dossier detailing the paid for (by DAFF - Department of
Agriculture) application to the OIE for official recognition of our AHS
Free Zone Area was submitted in good time to DAFF who, as official member country of
the OIE, subsequently forwarded it on.

The dossier was by and large
drafted by "Team SAF" with inputs from officials in Veterinary Services.

Many thanks and congratulations to all parties concerned!

This is fantastic news for our breeders. These tests should make the export procedure significantly cheaper and more predictable. the effects should be that instead on the top 20 horses leaving, we can probaby get our top 50 out. This may be too much for MdK to absorb, so maybe our local trainers can start overseas campaigns for themselves, as Lucky did.

Also, overseas buyers can start buying yearlings with much more certainty. I think access to foreign buyers will make a world of difference to sellers as the pressure from the top trickles down. It's been a long time coming.
