KZN breeders raceday
12 years 7 months ago
Thoroughbred breeders in KwaZulu-Natal have initiated some unique marketing strategies over the years but under the umbrella of the KZN Breeders’ Club they have embarked on their most ambitious project yet with the announcement of the KZN Breeders Day to be held at Greyville on Sunday, June 30, 2013.
Supporting the R1 million KZN Breeders Mile will be six other races carrying a stake of R200 000 each but restricted to horses that qualify as KZN-breds. The meeting comes the weekend before the KZN Yearling Sale and will give added incentive to prospective buyers to invest in KZN-bred stock.
The six supporting races will be two races each over 1200m, 1600m and 1900m, one each for fillies and mares and colts and geldings respectively. The races will be open to all horses country-wide whose credentials meet the criteria of “KZN bred” as prescribed by the rules of the KZN Breeders premium scheme.
Horses need to be pre-entered to qualify for the races at a nominal fee of R50 plus VAT with first nominations closing on Friday, December 14, 2012. Early entry ensures that all horses nominated can be timeously checked to ensure that they qualify as KZN breds. However, there will be a further supplementary entry stage on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 with a supplementary fee of R2 000 plus VAT.
To qualify for the races, points will be awarded in the months leading up to the racemeeting.
Horses registered at first entry will receive a 4-point bonus but horses supplemented in April will not qualify for the bonus.
Points for Maiden races will be awarded on a 4, 3, 2 basis for first, second and third. All other races, including Grade 1’s, will have points awarded from first to fifth on 8, 6, 4, 3, 1 basis.
Points will be awarded regardless of the distance of the races and it will be up to the connections of the horses as to which races they nominate for. The intention is to publish a points log on a fortnightly basis.
This season, points will be earned from 1 January, 2013 but as from next year the initial entry stage will be the first day of the season, Thursday, 1 August, 2013.
