Homer is well aware of the situation that racing SA is in and does not need me to tell him...he will be a huge loss to the industry and I can assure you it is not because he woke up one morning and realised that he was showing a loss in racing/ownership..the fact that he doesn't whinge about is not because he is content or showing a profit,he was in the game for the love of it and gave a lot of trainers a chance from those in the top 5 in the country to the less fortunate and treated them all equally...

As you said I did not wake up one morning and decided to sell. This has been coming a long time.
My reasons:
1. I had enough of what is happening in this country! So much hate, murders, racism - the list continues. It will always be home but I cannot live in such a country with this happening around me and decided to move on. It impacts one's quality of life and thinking! And yes, France is my country of choice - Le Havre on the English Channel to be exact.
2. I could leave the horses here but even racing (after 12 years and lots of fun) I feel is going the wrong way. There are serious challenges which can be overcome - but not by the people currently in charge. Given the crop I had like Contador, Sedge, Le Var etc. I made good money selling - my timing was spot on. Even my mares went for good money! In total I owned 30 horses - the 2yo's will be on the Cape Town RTR sale. I will keep about 3 in Kimberley only - just for fun!
3. Lastly - leaving racing was probably the most difficult decision of them all (not even leaving SA was such a difficult call). It is not about money or showing a profit - if you buy that R1m horse at the sale never think you will show a profit. This I knew and my idea was never to make money - it is investing into your dream. This dream became real on a few occasions - winning a couple of Group races and a few Listed races. But eventually I lost my passion for the game....I simply did not enjoy it anymore.

I love Le Havre, been there twice. Love the Indian Restaurants there....best Curry I have had in my life!!!!
All the best Homer, being a person who has made a conscious decision to leave I know you are doing the right thing. It doesn't change the fact that South Africa will always be home, it is all about the quality of life!!!!
Good luck!
