Help - Ron "Primus" Claassen

Below is a message i recieved earlier,if anyone can help with photo`s or even memories?



Would anyone perhaps have photos of a past Jockey by the name of Ron "Primus" Claassen? He was born 7 April 1958, grew up in P.E, graduated from Jockey Academy in Shongweni. He raced in Durban, P.E, Cape Town for many years until he very sadly passed away in 1998 at the young age of 39. His son is currently riding and studying at SAJA and I would love it if anyone has photos of Ron! Thanks,

H Primus rode for Grant Paddock's dad I will see if he has any pics...

Hibs, Wally Strydom no is 041 3672039 but I will ask him at races tomorrow if he has any pics. Maybe DES Mc Snr or Hekkie Strydom may also have....

Just went to Dad and asked him if he remembers Ron - his eyes lit up and said "WHOSE ASKIN?"

He recalls Ron, and is now wrecking his brain to come up with discreet events ()

Primus caught me a Gr8 % Pick6 one day, rode two horses at 12/1 for George Uren. Used to ride down in the Cape at times too. Got support from John McDonald. Sported quite the moustache, fair jockey.

Sadly, no pics. Knew him from his appie days. very fond memories u bring back now.

Frank Robinson just called me and he has quite a few photos of Primus as he won a number of races in PE for him. He said he has promised the photos to Brian but wanted to know who was looking for them?

Yes Chainsaw, that was at Milnerton. Got tipped the double that day. I miss that 1400m straight.

Hi, thanks so much for these replies and phone no. Ron was my step dad and he is still and will always be a very special man in my life. His son, Bryan, is my half brother and as he is turning 18 soon, I would like to get as many pics of his dad as possible. Bryan was only 3 years old when Ron passed and just seeing him on a horse brings back memories of my dear Ron. Thanks so so much and I will try and use these contacts.
