A question for the experts...

If you send horses out to gallop at 06h30 and it's considered unsafe to race, but the weatherman says no rain and temperatures of 20 degrees plus at 13h00 [the time of race 1], do you still abandon the meeting?

I don't know the answer and the possible implications if the weatherman is wrong and therefore the question; it's currently around 20 degrees plus, a light breeze and an absolutely stunning day here in Cape Town...

I'm pretty sure if they send those same horses right now, that racing will go ahead...

Many Tks

Yelda I am no expert but there is a very big difference in working horses at 06h30 on a sand track in the pouring rain as the horses work 2 by 2 and if wet at a canter.....even if the sun is out the Durbanville track is not at all kosher as it has taken some traffic last time it was raced and the intermittent rain has not allowed the grass to repair... having 10+ horses trying to race will cut up the track and then the races there after would be unsafe for horses and riders....

I think as soon as we had that rain on Friday and knowing there was previous racing at Durbanville making the track worse off than Kenilworth, the racing should have been moved to Kenilworth......friday afternoon already.

I wonder what would hve happened had the international jockey challenge been there this past Saturday what would have happened???
