most owners and trainers despise the sand track for many reasons, the long straight being one of them..i bet if u put it to a vote 90% would prefer a synthetic track to the sand...
i think you spend to much OF time moaning about everything from your tv and if you tried to UNDERSTAND better instead of listening to second hand information from second hand people you would make better judgements.

according to him maybe..in racing i have learnt that the "owners" with the 5 % shares that never pay training fee's are always quick to complain and cry about money owed these are the same types who pretend to have more in the bank then they actually do..

Socrates, the Vaal has more than a sand track and I don't believe people actually go looking to buy horses to race on sand. It is only an avenue for failed or less than mediocre horses to be tried on the surface so that the racing operator can have a venue to use during the off season. Should their investment in synthetic sufaces pay off and they can recoup enough from synthetic surfaces then they will maybe dispose the Vaal. This will not happen in your or my lifetime as the wheels move very slowly and never in a 24 month horizon.
You may think that Wemmer Pan is a joke, but Joberg Metro is so cash strapped and the environs around Turffontien so poor and delapedated that the right offer could buy a depreciating asset such as a municpal park. If Phumelela had the right vision and a view to expansion this is what could be available to them. As it is Phumelela have ploughed enough cash into this asset and if they want to throw more money at it, they can.

I find all this rubbishing of the sand track very short-sighted; what is wrong with having an alternate surface to race on? (especially in winter) Yes, the sand has it's problems and there should have been better planning at the start, but the sand has given many horses (and owners) a new lease of life - what is wrong with that?
And whether it is 'boring' - not for me, so I must be part of the 5% that sees it's value
Regarding 'inconsistent' performance on the sand (I heard the Aussie confessing yesterday that he can't figure out the form on the sand) - does anyone have actual true stats about the number of 'fancied' (less that 5/1?) winning on the sand as compared to other turf tracks - especially in PE - and nobody is calling for PE racing to be scrapped?
